The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of:

  1. a Bachelor degree in Banking and Finance from this University, obtained with at least Second Class Honours or
  2. the degree of Bachelor of Commerce with Banking and Finance as one of the two main areas of study, obtained with at least Category II or
  3. a degree with at least Second Class Honours or Category II, in any other area deemed relevant by the Board of Studies or
  4. a qualification deemed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Board, to be comparable to the qualifications listed in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c),

provided that, in appropriate cases, the Board may require students admitted to the Course to follow and pass supplementary study-units to which a maximum of 12 ECTS credits are assigned in addition to the programme of study.

The admission of applicants under paragraphs (b) and, if necessary, (c) and (d) may be made conditional on the results of an interview conducted for the purpose.

Applicants admitted under paragraphs (b) and, if necessary, (c) and (d) may be required to complete a preparatory programme.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Arts in Banking, Investments and Finance - M.A. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Describe and discuss the impacts of salient banking trends, with particular reference to the implications of evolving technologies.
  • Explain the concept of risk in order to be able to decide which clients can benefit from this asset.
  • Explain the rationale underlying the use of structured products.
  • List the main topical issues in securities regulation and supervision in Malta.
  • Develop a good understanding of psychological concepts that are relevant to financial decision making and the way to apply them in practice.
  • Conduct a research project in an appropriate manner taking into consideration all ethical issues required, time-planning and budgeting.
